Are you an internet jewelry store, or do you have a physical brick-and-mortar location?
Both!
Most of our business is conducted through our brick-and-mortar jewelry store. Our website however, enables us to continue to service our existing clients, as well as meet many new clients.
Are you that company who use to run commercials back in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s, “Just Dial Diamond D-I-A-M-O-N-D…” and “Learn About Diamonds Before You Buy…”? Charles Kent Reaver Diamond Company…?
Yes, we are descendents of that company!
We still have the unforgettable phone number 248 D-I-A-M-O-N-D and you can still “Learn About Diamonds Before You Buy”.
What are your physical store hours?
10:30am – 5:30pm – Monday
10:30am – 7:30pm – Tuesday
10:30am – 5:30pm – Wednesday
10:30am – 7:30pm – Thursday
10:30am – 5:30pm – Friday
10:30am – 3:30pm – Saturday
Closed – Sunday
What do you specialize in? What kind of jewelry do you sell?
We specialize in custom design – taking a concept from drafting, to CAD rendering, to the final product. TRUE custom design from the ground up – not just changing the size of a center Diamond on a stock ring, or ordering a modified jewelry item in and calling it a ‘custom design’.
We also carry several designer jewelry and watch lines (both ladies and gents) in-house.
Designer jewelry or watch lines not carried in-house, we can get in for customers based on a style or model number.
Contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com for any questions on custom designing a jewelry item or for questions on any designer jewelry or watches.
Do I have to make an appointment to come in to your store?
We do recommend scheduling an appointment for customers stopping by our store – to make sure we are available for the customer when they stop by.
If you are stopping by to pick up your job, just give us a quick call before hand and let us know approximately when you’ll be by and we can have everything ready for you when you arrive.
For cleaning or checking your jewelry, if you would like to give us a call before stopping by you can, but it is not necessary.
If however our jeweler or a sales associate is not available to clean or check your jewelry while you wait, you may need to leave the jewelry and pick up either later that day or possibly the next day.
If you would like to contact us ahead of time, or would like to schedule an appointment, you can do so by contacting us via phone at (248-645-9200).
How do I order? Can I order online?
If you see a jewelry item you like, you can order that item by giving us a call at (248 D-I-A-M-O-N-D or 248-645-9200). You may also order an item by sending us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com – describing the item and any special instructions. We will then contact you for further details.
When ordering online, the jewelry item may be one showcased on our website, our Facebook page, or it may also be an item seen elsewhere on: the internet, in a magazine, in a catalog, etc. With our ability to custom design, we can create or customize most any jewelry item. Details can be communicated back-and-forth via phone or email.
For questions or more information about ordering a jewelry item, you can contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Is it beneficial buying from a physical brick-and-mortar jewelry store or can I just buy online?
It is beneficial purchasing from an established (local) physical brick-and-mortar jewelry store verses purchasing a jewelry item or Diamond online for many reasons – several we have listed below:
A brick-and-mortar jewelry store will have a selection of rings and/or Diamonds to compare with each other.
You can view, hold, touch, see multiple rings and/or Diamonds and compare each to each other. Diamonds in particular need to be compared side-by-side with other Diamonds to determine which is the most beautiful and best value (based on their visual appearance in ‘real-life’). A Diamond should be purchased for its beauty as seen by the human eye, not purchased solely on the assumption of its ‘beauty’ (how all Diamonds online are purchased).
There are many more factors when determining a Diamonds beauty than just those listed on a certification or report.
You can physically see the (Diamond or Ring) you are purchasing – and not have to blindly trust an online listing.
Many photographs of jewelry (and rings in particular) have been blown-up “to show detail” – giving the illusion the jewelry item and Diamond(s) are larger than they are.
Also, the Diamond quality shown in many of these pictures are of higher quality Diamonds, but in many cases the Diamond quality of the actual ring a customer would receive is much lower. More often than not, the picture shown online does not give an accurate representation of the actual jewelry item a customer would receive.
A jeweler can guide you through the judging points that are key to a beautiful Diamond, as well as make sure the Diamond you are purchasing contains value.
Customers can decide for themselves what judging points are important to them, or not important based on visually comparing multiple Diamonds.
If you purchase a ring or Diamond online who will stand behind that ring or Diamond in the future? With whom will you take your Diamond or ring to if it ever needs service? Will you have to ship your ring or Diamond out to someone every time you need service?
Many online jewelry stores offer a 30 day money back guarantee but there may be many stipulations attached to it. A few we have seen:
– refund is for a store credit only
– if a center Diamond was purchased and set in a piece of jewelry, it is non-refundable
– handling and restocking fees – sometimes in excess of 20%
– shipping charges charged to the customer both when the Diamond/jewelry item was shipped to them (even if it was originally shipped to the customer with free shipping) as well as shipping charges back to the online retailer. Depending on the cost of the Diamond/jewelry item, these costs can be in excess of $125 each way.
Purchasing from a brick-and-mortar jewelry store supports your local community (an actual physical ‘real-life’ local business).
If however, there is a local jewelry store with whom you trust, purchasing online from them does have its convenience advantages.
For questions or more information about purchasing from a brick-and-mortar jewelry store verses purchasing online, you can contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.

What is rhodium? Why does my white gold jewelry sometimes turn ‘yellowish’ in color?
Rhodium is one of the rarest precious metals (even more rare and expensive than Platinum) and is categorized in the Platinum group of metals.
Rhodium is visually an ultra-white metal most notably used to plate white gold jewelry (10k, 14k, 18k, etc). Rhodium plating white gold will both protect the metal as well as visually make white gold appear ‘whiter’, similar to platinum.
Over time, the rhodium plating on white gold will wear off – both from ‘scratching’ off, as well as from the chemistry from a person’s body (acidity). The rhodium will typically wear off so slowly that customers may not notice the rhodium has worn off – until the jewelry item is compared next to another jewelry item with ‘fresh rhodium’.
As the rhodium wears off, white gold can appear to have a yellowish tinge to it. This is the actual color of “white” gold – the rhodium is what gives white gold its very white, platinum-like appearance.
If the rhodium has come off a piece of jewelry, the customer can then decide to ‘re-plate’ the jewelry item (with rhodium), or keep the slightly yellower appearance of the white gold.
For questions or more information about rhodium or rhodium plating, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Do you buy Gold? Platinum? Silver?
Yes.
We test and weigh any precious metal(s) in front of the customer, as well as look up the very current price of that particular precious metal, for that particular day.
Some Silver items we do not purchase.
For questions or more information about selling any precious metal or jewelry item, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Can I apply any (Gold, Platinum, Silver) I may have towards a purchase/future purchase?
Yes.
The monetary value of any gold, platinum, silver, or previous jewelry item may be used towards a purchase/future purchase.
In some cases, the actual metal itself may be melted down and used in a custom designed piece of jewelry. This is especially beneficial if there is any sentiment or special memory in a previous piece of jewelry. The entire jewelry item could be melted down and re-cast into a new jewelry item.
For questions or more information about applying any gold, platinum or silver towards a purchase/future purchase… or any questions regarding melting down a piece of jewelry and re-casting it into a new piece of jewelry, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
What is a ‘Gold Party’?
A ‘Gold Party’ is where a customer would invite several of his or her friends and or family members to bring over their old Gold and or Diamonds to sell (could be at his or her house, a clubhouse, or another predetermined location).
The Reaver Diamond Company would host the party and bring all the equipment for testing and purchasing: Gold, Platinum, Silver, Diamonds, Gemstones, Coins, etc.
All items are tested, weighed and quoted in front of the customer and payment is made on the spot if the customer decides to sell.
Similar to a candle or Tupperware party, but instead of spending money, the guests get PAID to come to this party!
For questions or more information about a Gold Party… or to have the Reaver Diamond Company host a gold party for you, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Do you buy Diamonds? Can you sell my Diamond for me?
Yes.
There are several options for selling your Diamond(s).
1. We purchase Diamond(s) for ‘cash’.
On-the-spot payment.
2. We purchase Diamond(s) for a store credit.
A higher price than a ‘cash price’ but must be put towards a new purchase.
3. We can sell Diamond(s) on a consignment basis.
Offers a higher price than selling for a ‘cash price’, but is not an on-the-spot form of payment. Customer receives payment if and when the item sells.
4. We broker Diamond(s).
Brokering is typically done on larger, more expensive or rare Diamonds, offers a higher price than a ‘cash price’ and is typically faster than consigning.
5. If we are not interested in purchasing or consigning your Diamond(s), we will recommend other options.
For questions or more information about selling or consigning your Diamond, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Can I trade-in my Diamond towards another Diamond? What is your trade-in / trade-up policy?
Yes.
If a customer previously purchased their Diamond from us, we give 100% of the original retail price paid for the previous Diamond towards a new Diamond purchase – with the stipulation that the retail value of the new Diamond purchase needs to be twice that of the trade-in value.
Example. A customer purchased a Diamond from the Reaver Diamond Company 5 years ago for $4,500. The Reaver Diamond Company will give that customer a $4,500 credit towards a Diamond valued at $9,000 or more.
If the customer did not previously purchase the Diamond from us, we look up the current wholesale value of the previous Diamond and apply that value towards any new Diamond purchase – with the stipulation the retail value of the new Diamond purchase needs to be twice that of the trade-in value.
Example. A customer purchased a Diamond from another jewelry store 5 years ago. The Reaver Diamond Company will look up the current wholesale value of that Diamond at [today’s prices] (let’s say it is $4,000) and give the customer that current wholesale value ($4,000) as a credit towards a new Diamond valued at $8,000 or more (for this example).
For questions or more information about trading in a Diamond towards a new purchase, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Do you purchase Gemstones?
Yes.
Gemstone(s) need to be free of abrasions (tiny scratches) or chips and need to be in new condition.
Gemstone purchase prices are typically offered in a ‘cash purchase price’ (consignment is not typical for gemstones).
For questions or more information about selling gemstones, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
What is Consignment? Do you offer Consignment?
Consignment is for customers looking to sell their used jewelry and or Diamonds and have some time to sell the item(s) and don’t need the money right away.
Customer would get paid for their item(s) if/when an item sells.
Consigned items need to be in very good to excellent condition – or would need to be repaired to a very good or excellent condition before putting on consignment.
Items would be polished, cleaned and repaired to ‘like-new’ condition and then placed in the Reaver Diamond Company’s showcases – selling the item(s) as-is, as used consignment or estate pieces.
Consignment offers the customer quite a bit higher potential price for their Diamond or jewelry item(s) than any other form of selling, but may take several weeks, several months, or several years to sell an item; with some consignment items never selling.
Consigned items are typically only kept for a maximum of 1 year. If after 1 years time an item has not sold, the customer can decide if they would like to sell that item for a ‘cash price’, or they may pick the item up.
Not all items are candidates for consignment. Eligibility is on a piece-by-piece basis.
Benefit = higher price if the item sells.
Disadvantage = takes longer to sell.
For questions or more information about putting an item on consignment, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Do you charge anything for putting my jewelry on consignment?
No.
Very few jewelry stores offer consignment… and if they do, they typically charge either a percentage of the sale (20%, etc) or they may take a flat fee ($100/item etc) for trying to sell.
The Reaver Diamond Company offers consignment as a (free) service to our customers.
For questions or more information about putting an item on consignment, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Do I have to be a customer of the Reaver Diamond Company to put my jewelry item(s) on consignment?
No.
New customers are always welcome.
We recommend making an appointment and bringing in your jewelry. We can go through the item(s) together and discuss possible consignment options.
For questions or more information about putting an item on consignment, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
What is a ‘cash’ price (when selling my jewelry and or Diamond)?
A ‘cash price’ would be a price a jewelry store would be willing to purchase a particular item for ‘cash’ (or check) and payment is made for that item on the spot.
Benefit = immediate payment.
Disadvantage = payment amount is typically less than one could get selling [the item] on consignment.
For questions or more information about selling jewelry or a Diamond for cash, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Do you do appraisals?
Yes.
The Reaver Diamond Company includes a new appraisal with every new jewelry item sold (valued at $500 or more).
The Reaver Diamond Company can also do an appraisal on a jewelry item valued below $500, upon the customer’s request.
For questions or more information about an appraisal, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Can you do an appraisal on a piece of jewelry even if I did not buy the jewelry item from you?
Yes.
If there is any information on the jewelry item (receipt, certification, warranty card, etc) this is helpful, but is not needed.
For questions or more information about an appraisal, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
How long does it take to do an appraisal? When can I get my appraisal?
New jewelry purchases, the included appraisal should be ready when the item is ready for pick-up.
Jewelry items that are not new purchases but need a new appraisal will typically take 1 day to complete – multiple jewelry items may take longer.
Customer can drop the jewelry item off to be appraised and the completed appraisal should be ready the next business day.
Jewelry items that need their appraisal updated (jewelry item has previously had an appraisal done on it – either by the Reaver Diamond Company or elsewhere) and there is a copy of the previous appraisal, the updated appraisal should take approximately 2 hours to complete (per jewelry item) – as long as the customer schedules an appointment to do so.
If a particular item: contains an unusual gemstone, is very old, or needs more research than usual to verify information… this may add several more days to the time it takes to complete an appraisal.
For questions or more information about appraisals or appraisal updates, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
What type of Jewelry items can you do an appraisal on?
The Reaver Diamond Company can do appraisals on most all jewelry items:
· Silver
· Gold
· Platinum
· Diamonds
· Gemstones
· Rings
· Earrings
· Bracelets
· Pendants

The Reaver Diamond Company does not do appraisals on silverware, silver place settings, Waterford crystal, or other collectable trinkets.
For questions or more information regarding specific types of jewelry items to be appraised, or the different types of appraisals available, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
How much do you charge for a Jewelry appraisal?
If the jewelry item has never had an appraisal done on it before (either by the Reaver Diamond Company or elsewhere), cost is $65 per jewelry item.
If the jewelry item has had an appraisal done on it before (either by the Reaver Diamond Company or elsewhere) cost is $20 per jewelry item to update – as long as a copy of the previous appraisal is available.
If a copy of the previous appraisal is not available, cost would be $65 per jewelry item.
Verbal appraisals are free.
For questions or more information about a new, updated or verbal appraisal, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
When insuring my jewelry, is there an Insurance company you would recommend?
If you do not wish to use your current insurance company, or would like to compare your insurance company with another, the Reaver Diamond Company can give you a recommendation to a very good insurance company who specializes in only insuring jewelry.
For questions or more information about insuring your jewelry and which insurance company we would recommend, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
How much should insurance cost for my jewelry?
Prices vary depending on the state you live in and the deductible amount you choose, but as a general rule of thumb, jewelry insurance should cost approximately $10.00 – $12.50 per $1,000 you insure, per year – with a $0 deductible.
For example, $10,000.00 worth of jewelry insured with a $0 deductible should cost approximately $100.00 – $120.00 per year.
Approximated costs would be less if a deductible was applied.
For questions or more information about insuring your jewelry, or for a more accurate quote, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
How do I insure my jewelry?
Jewelry item(s) can be insured as a rider to a homeowners or renters policy. Contact your insurance company for specific details about coverage, replacement, deductible and price.
Most insurance companies require a recent appraisal (typically within the last 3 years) on any jewelry item(s) you wish to insure and some also require a picture of each jewelry item on the appraisal.
For questions or more information about insuring your jewelry, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
What is a ‘Certified Diamond’?
A certified Diamond is a Diamond that has been sent to an independent gemological grading laboratory and graded (or certified) on its unique attributes. The Diamond is graded by no less than (3) Gemologists, with the final grade being an average of all the graders.
Each certified Diamond will come with a laminated certificate, report, or document – which contains all of the attributes of the Diamond being certified.
Caution should be taken though with the particular grading laboratory that certified the Diamond – as not all grading laboratories have the same standards when grading. (The differences in standards and grades can be significant).
Some grading laboratories offer laser inscription of the report number on the edge of the Diamond – as a security feature – and some laboratories allow certified Diamonds to be verified online via their website.
For questions or more information about certified Diamonds, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
I noticed there are multiple companies that certify Diamonds. Are there any differences between their grading standards?
The different certification laboratories all use the same grading scale, but can vary greatly on their “interpretation” of the scale (i.e. their strictness or leniency to the standard scale as set forth by the GIA – Gemological Institute of America).
(The AGS – American Gem Society – also uses the same grading scale, but displays their reports in a slightly different manor than other certification laboratories – with their own proprietary numbering system).
Each laboratory within itself is fairly consistent in their grading – typically one color or clarity grade is considered acceptable. Between different grading laboratories though, the Reaver Diamond Company has seen as much as (6) grading standard differences between them – typically in the laboratory’s judgment of the ‘Color’ scale.
Knowing the differences between the laboratories grading standards makes a HUGE difference to what the [Diamond] will really look like in “real-life” – and of course, will also have a dramatic effect on the price of the Diamond.
There is nothing wrong with having a Diamond certified by a ‘less strict’ laboratory… as long as you know the difference between their less strict standards verses the other laboratories grading standards.
This is why it is important to educate yourself and “Learn About Diamonds Before You Buy”.
For questions or more information about certified Diamonds and the differences/similarities between the grading laboratories, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
Do I need to get a certified Diamond?
You do not have to get a certified Diamond, but we typically recommend getting a Diamond certified if:
· It is a very high quality Diamond
· It’s over 1.00 carats in size
· If it is a ‘fancy’ colored Diamond
· If the Diamond has been treated or enhanced
· If you are uncertain, or do not trust the person selling it
For questions or more information about certified Diamonds, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
If my Diamond is not certified, can I get it certified?
Yes.
An individual personally cannot send a Diamond in to get certified, but a reputable Jeweler will be able to send your Diamond in to the laboratory of your choice to be certified.
To be certified, the Diamond would need to be loose (not set in any piece of jewelry).
If the Diamond to be certified is currently mounted in a piece of jewelry, it would have to be taken out, sent in to be certified and then re-set back into the piece of jewelry after it arrives back from certification.
For questions or more information about certifying your Diamond, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.

What is a birthstone?
Each month of the year is symbolized by a specific Gemstone or Diamond – with some months containing multiple (gemstone) options. The multiple gemstone options for a given month will sometimes represent a modern or traditional birthstone option.
Typically though, when referring to birthstones, the modern birthstone is implied.
For questions or more information about birthstones, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.

What is the best way to clean my Jewelry?
GOLD or PLATINUM:
Gold and Platinum jewelry can be maintained with a bottle of the Reaver Diamond Company’s free “blue” jewelry cleaner.
Dip a small toothbrush into the jewelry cleaner and brush the jewelry item thoroughly. If the jewelry item is excessively dirty, you may let it soak overnight and then brush thoroughly. After brushing, make sure your drain is closed and rinse the jewelry item under hot water.
The brushing (and soaking) will loosen the dirt and debris; the hot water ‘melts’ the skin oils, hand lotion, dirt and debris away.
Cleaning jewelry with the jewelry cleaner and brushing should be done once per week (or sooner). Any longer in between cleaning’s and the dirt and debris hardens like plaque – which would require soaking and heavy brushing to remove, or professional cleaning.
The brushing and cleaning will help to maintain your gold and platinum jewelry items. To restore jewelry to ‘like new’ condition, items can be brought in and professionally cleaned (free of charge). Just give us a call and let us know before you come (248-645-9200).
SILVER:
Silver jewelry you do not want to clean in gold or platinum jewelry cleaner. This will tarnish the silver item – which will be extremely hard to remove.
Specialty silver jewelry cleaners and silver polishing cloths are available at most major department stores.
With silver jewelry cleaner (liquids or pastes), follow the instructions on the bottle.
With a specialty silver polishing cloth, rub the silver item thoroughly. This may require some force and should shine up the silver item.
Of course, we can professionally clean your silver jewelry for you – just give us a call and let us know before you come (248-645-9200).
There may be a small charge for cleaning/polishing silver jewelry items.
For questions or more information about cleaning and maintaining your jewelry, contact us via phone (248-645-9200) or send us an email to: ContactUs@ReaverDiamond.com.
